The Toronto Blue Jays have signed Max Scherzer
Toronto Blue Jays have reportedly future hall of fame pitcher Max Scherzer to a one year deal.
MLB Insider Jeff Passan posted that the deal is one year for $15.5MM. Jon Heyman was first to report the signing.
The Blue Jays had long been seeking to add to their rotation and had been heavily invested in Scherzer for several weeks.
Scherzer's signing has the potential to be a game-changer for the Blue Jays. Aside from the fact that he is a future, first-ballot Hall of Famer, Scherzer lengthens out the starting rotation and pitching depth considerably. By slotting him in as the number three or four starter, the Blue Jays are able to slide Yariel Rodriguez into the bullpen, while at the same time keeping Jake Bloss in the Triple A to further his development.
With Adam Kloffenstein, Eric Lauer, and Adam Macko also in the minors, and Rodriguez available to start if need be, the Blue Jays suddenly have eight or nine major league ready pitchers.
Scherzer's credentials are well-known. 3000Ks. Three Cy Young Awards. Eight time All-Star. Author of two no-hitters. This is the biggest get that the Blue Jays have gotten in a very, very, long time.
While fans would no doubt still like to see another bat added as well as Vladimir Guerrero Jr.. extension, Max Scherzer is a player that can undeniably push the Blue Jays over-the-top as well as entice the Blue Jays and Vladdy to get something done.
Has Ross Atkins just won the offseason?
